THE CHALLENGE

A Leaky Bucket

Trek & Trail, a premier regional kayak outfitter, was investing in Google Paid Search but seeing limited returns. When Deep Water Perspectives audited their account, we found that their ad budget was being spread thin across a fragmented, untracked ecosystem →

  • Overly Broad Keywords: Bidding on general search terms cast too wide a net, attracting low-intent clicks and draining the budget before high-intent searchers could find them.

  • Split Account Structure: Two separate campaigns targeted nearly identical audiences. This fragmentation kept Google’s optimization algorithms from gathering enough data to bid efficiently.

  • Restricted Geotargeting: The targeted geographic areas were too narrow, entirely missing high-intent travelers from neighboring key markets planning their trips.

  • The "Blind Spot": Because conversion tracking pixels weren't installed, there was zero visibility into what users did after clicking an ad. Without conversion data, Google's smart bidding algorithms had no way to self-optimize.

THE SOLUTION

Precision & Infrastructure

We completely rebuilt the outfitter’s paid search presence from the ground up, shifting their strategy from generic reach to high-intent conversion.

  1. Establish Digital Accountability: Technical Setup.

We deployed robust tracking pixels across the website to measure key user behaviors, providing the tracking data needed to feed Google’s optimization algorithms.

  2. Consolidate Campaigns: Structural Shift.

We combined the fragmented budgets into a single, cohesive campaign structure. By pooling the data, we allowed the platform’s algorithm to learn and optimize bids efficiently.

  3. Refine Keyword Strategy: Targeting Precision.

Using advanced search tools, we stripped away high-volume, low-intent keywords and narrowed our focus strictly to terms used by customers ready to book.

  4. Expand Regional Reach: Geographic Optimization.

We expanded geotargeting to capture active travel planners in vital feeder markets outside the immediate local area, driving fresh, high-intent traffic to the site.

THE BREAKTHROUGH

Uncovering a New Revenue Stream

We didn't stop at optimization. By analyzing the backend search query reports, we discovered a major untapped market demand: a massive volume of users were searching specifically for kayak rentals, whereas the client was primarily messaging guided trips.

Using this data, we built a dedicated, conversion-focused landing page specifically for rentals. The result: Immediate, brand-new revenue. By unlocking the insights hidden within search data, we didn't just optimize their existing business—we helped them build a new, highly profitable service line.

We don’t just measure clicks and impressions. By combining strict technical infrastructure with human search psychology, we transform digital media budgets from an expense into a measurable growth engine.

"Deep Water Perspectives is incredible to work with. They’re great communicators, break things down in simple terms, and have made meaningful improvements to our paid search in short order. We immediately felt the results of their work. Knowing our ad spending isn't going to waste is a huge burden off my shoulders."
